Kareef TS#12
Date/Time: June 3rd Monday
Location: Zoom
Topic/Skill: reading comprehension and casual conversation
Feedback provided to the tutee: Provided corrections to my tutee's mistakes and taught some new grammar. Dojun worked on listening comprehension today as I replayed certain sections of the video a few times for him.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that sometimes a video on your student's own culture can still be entertaining for them. This is because they can explain aspects of their culture in English to you, the tutor. I had Dojun listen to a video about a Canadian journalist sharing interesting facts about South Korean culture. Dojun was quite animated talking about certain topics such as the 1988 Summer Olympics, eating soup out of the same bowl as your family/friends, and the concept of nunchi. I previously thought that this lesson might be boring for Dojun as he is Korean and already knows about all these things. However, the act of explaining your culture to someone who knows nothing about it is a fun thing and I saw that come to life in our lesson today.
