Date/Time: 11 am on Wednesday, May 15th
Topic/Skill: Reading/Comprehension Group 2/3
Teacher Presentation: The teacher led the group in a discussion about their previous reading assignment. Next she explained some new vocabulary to the students to help them approach this new reading. Ie. What is a bubble? - used to begin describing the word "pop".
Classroom Management: The teacher provided discussion questions to help students through comprehending the passage and grasping the greater meaning and implications.
Materials: CIES text book, worksheets.
Student Participation: Each student read the given material alone and then worked with their partners to discuss answers to questions provided.
Feedback Provided: Professor Ciappetta provided guidance with understanding the reading material and then provided direction to understanding incorrect answers.
Lesson(s) on the teaching you learned: I really appreciated how Prof. Ciappetta approached new vocabulary using a discussion about vocabulary they already know. This was more difficult than simply looking up a photo or video but I believe that it will provoke greater retention within the students. Additionally, I liked how the atmosphere of the class was very light and fun. This kind of teaching really resonates with me and seems to provoke more individual participation in group activities. Some quieter students seemed to speak more as a result of this atmosphere.
